Asplenium athertonense spore

Asplenium (ass plen ee um) athertonense (a ther ton ense) is found as an epiphyte, or on rocks in very wet areas of high altitude rainforest.

This dainty little fern requires precise conditions for its survival and is therefore very difficult to grow.  Because of the nature of its habitat it cannot be grown in a garden situation, although it can be established on a rock that will absorb some moisture such as sandstone or basalt, (not hard granite) in a dedicated fernery.   It can also be grown successfully in a well set up terrarium.
